Ephemeral Artifacts
I discovered a book called Still by Mary Jo Hoffman. She’s been taking a photograph of little finds from nature every day - a kind of nature journal - for twelve years. The simplicity but mindfulness of Mary Jo’s project struck a chord. I’ve wanted to take on a photography project for a long time, but could never come up with an idea that was interesting while being achievable. And so I’ve started my “Emphemeral Artifacts” project (follow on Insta here).
The first few days have been trial and error for the photography technique. If I want to do a daily shot, It’s got to be quick and using natural light, because that’s what I’ve got.
Pittos was my first image. A few twigs from a sickly (I’m fairly sure) pittosporum in the back yard. They have a soft blend of yellow & pink on their leaves that’s reminiscent of little watercolour painting.
